Abstract

1411294 Moulding rubber UNIROYAL Inc 27 Nov 1972 [1 Dec 1971] 54737/72 Heading B5A Apparatus for moulding an article from at least two different rubbers, e.g. a multicoloured shoe sole, includes a mould 12 provided with inlet and vent passages 32, 34 so that compressed air may be blown through the mould between the moulding of each rubber to remove any loose particles of flash. As shown, rubber is injected through a passage 22 into the mould cavity 24 and a sole plate 16 is raised to mould a mid-sole 28 against a lasted upper 20. The sole plate 16 is provided with a peripheral groove 36 which accommodates the flash arising from the midsole 28 to form a bead 48 and with a lip 44 which when the sole plate 16 is lowered tears the bead 48 from the midsole 28. The sole plate 16 is lowered below the passages 32, 34 and compressed air is blown through the cavity 24 to remove any loose particles of flash arising from the bead 48 being torn from the midsole 28. The sole plate 16 is then either kept stationary or raised above the passages 32, 34 and a different coloured rubber is injected through a passage 30. The sole plate 16 is raised to mould an outsole 52 against the midsole 28, the bead 48 preventing formation of flash from the outsole 52. The passages 32, 34 may be fitted with valves and may be co-planar. The passage 32 may be offset from or aligned with the passages 22, 30.
