Abstract

1411253 Interrupters; timing ignition; internal combustion engine LUCAS ELECTRICAL CO Ltd 29 Dec 1972 [15 Jan 1972] 2044/72 Headings B and F1 [Also in Division H1I An ignition distributer for an I.C. engine including a casing for housing a contact breaker assembly and a rotatable cam has a vacuum unit comprising a hollow housing 14 slidably engaged within a support member 11 attached to or forming part of the casing. Rigidly secured to the diecast member 16 of the housing and axially movable within a bore 13 in the support member parallel to the spigot axis is a screwed rod 25 engaging a nut 28 located for angular movement only in slot 27. The metal pressing 17 of the housing traps a diaphragm 15 to which is attached one end of a connection link 19 with coupling means at its other end associated with the contact breaker assembly. Movement of the housing and the connection link relative to the support member by rotation of the nut is limited to the distance between shoulders of a recessed portion 31 of the rod 25 by an abutment pin in the support member. The chamber to the right of the diaphragm in pressure communication with the engine manifold houses a compression spring 23 urging the diaphragm towards reducing the volume of the chamber to the left. The arrangement of the screwed rod in relation to the housing and the support member may be interchanged and also that of the abutments as between the screw and the support member or housing.
