Abstract

1407996 Comminuting at low temperatures BRITISH OXYGEN CO Ltd 5 July 1973 [11 July 1972] 32445/72 Heading B2A [Also in Divisions C3 and C7] Wire and insulating material are recovered from insulated wire by cooling it, in a continuous length, to below the embrittlement temperature of the covering, a part of which is then subjected to simultaneous shearing and hammering action to remove the portion of insulating material from the wire. In the Fig. the wire 10 is cooled in tunnel 11, supported an anvil 25 and subjected to shearing and hammering by reciprocating bladed edge hammer 27 prior to passing to the take up spool 37. The shattered pieces of insulation fall into hopper 31 and are removed via outlet 35 for use as a feed material for other applications. A specified insulating material is polyethylene.
