Abstract

966,393. Cutting tobacco. AMERICAN MACHINE & FOUNDRY CO. Jan 16, 1962 [Jan. 18, 1961], No. 1604/62. Heading A4C. Tobacco leaves on a conveyer 12 are cut into strips by a cutter 10 and the strips cut into lengths by a fly-knife 14. The strips are then passed to a fast moving conveyer 18 which separates the cut lengths to enable them to be pushed by a device 20 on to a conveyer 22 when the strips are cut transversely of their lengths by a cutter 24. The angle of the knife 14 to the conveyer 12 and of the conveyer 22 to the conveyer 18 may be varied. U.S.A. Specifications 2,984,276 and 3,026,878 are referred to.
