Abstract

1407851 Coated products DOW CHEMICAL CO 9 Nov 1972 [12 Nov 1971] 51863/72 Heading B2E [Also in Division C3] Steel is coated with a primer comprising a solid epoxy resin obtained by reacting (in any sequence) (I) a liquid epoxy resin, e.g. a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A; (II) a compound containing more than one phenolic OH group, e.g. bisphenol A; and (III) a polymer of an alkadiene with (meth)acrylonitrile which oontaines 1-5% by wt. of -COOH groups. In an example a steel substrate was coated with an epoxy resin of the invention cured with dicyandiamide and 2-methylimidazole and pigmented with TiO 2 . It was cured 5 mins at 177‹C served as a primer for a conventional acrylic paint.
