Abstract

1407300 Electronic watches SUWA SEIKOSHA KK 20 Dec 1972 [27 Dec 1971 28 Dec 1971] 47162/74 Divided out of 1407299 Heading G3T [Also in Divisions G5 and H4] A display device, e.g. for an electronic wrist watch comprises a first polarizer 21 having an incident face, a focusing device, e.g. a concave mirror 23, for receiving light that has passed through the polarizer 21, material 24, e.g. Gd 2 (MoO 4 ) 3 which exhibits double refraction upon the application thereto of an electric field, and a second polarizer 26 having a display face having an area less than that of the incident face 21, the mirror 23 directing polarized light through the parts 24, 26. A coloured plate 25 may be located between the parts 24, 26. The material 24 comprises a plurality of single crystals, or may be of transparent ferro-electric ceramic.
