Compound piston pumps; pump-actuating mechanism; plant, general arrangement of; heat of compression, absorbing.-A compound aircompressor comprises a series of low and a series of high pressure cylinders arranged axially in line with each other on opposite sides of a driving- shaft carrying eccentrics surrounded by bearing rings; the piston connecting-rods on one side have their ends fixed to the ring; those on the other side have forked ends forming arcuate fingers embracing the corresponding eccentrics and pivoted to the opposite sides of the rings; the cylinders are water-jacketed. As shown, the low and high pressure cylinders 6, 7 are secured to vertical apertured plates 2, 3 on a base-plate 1. The driving-shaft 8 disposed transversely between the sets of cylinders carries eccentrics 13 surrounded by antifriction bearings supporting straps 14. The high-pressure pistons 12 are connected to the straps by rods 16, and the low-pressure pistons 11 by rods 17 having forked arcuate fingers 18 embracing the disks and connected to the straps on the other side. A casing 19 is connected with each low-pressure cylinder, connected with a common manifold 22, and containing inlet and outlet valves 20, 21. A similar valvecasing 23 is provided in connexion with each highpressure cylinder, communicating through inlet and outlet valves 24, 25, with an intake manifold 26 connected with the manifold 22, and an outlet manifold 27. The eccentrics are arranged to operate the first stage compressors in turn and the second stage compressors similarly. The cylinders are provided with jackets 31, 32 through which water is circulated by a pump 35 operated by the shaft 8. 140,764. Vallaeys, A. A. March 21, 1919, [Convention date]. Regulating exhaustion.-Relates to closed dyeing-vats with means for exhausting vapours, pivoted doors being connected to the valve controlling the exhaust. The sides of the vat are closed, and doors C, D at the front and back are pivoted at E, F and are geared to a flap valve I connecting the vat to a chamber H leading to a collector K, kept at reduced pressure, by a head L which reaches up to the axis of the collector to prevent water of condensation from running back. The valve I opens with the doors C, D and vapours' are then drawn in by the collector.
