Abstract

1406929 Adjustable chairs STABILUS GmbH 16 May 1973 [17 May 1972] 23385/73 Heading A4J [Also in Division F2] A chair is provided with a seat 14, the height of which is adjusted by a gas spring 13 and a backrest 43 the rake of which is adjusted by a gas spring 15, adjustment of the two gas springs being effected by rotation of a single operating lever 4 about a horizontal axis 5. Upward movement of the free end of the lever causes depression of the release pin 17 associated with gas spring 13 thereby allowing vertical adjustment of the seat. Downward movement of the free end of the lever causes depression of the release pin 12 associated with gas spring 15 by the abutment of an oblique part 11 on the other end of the lever with a slide 7 which moves along a slideway in a shackle 21 to depress the release pin 12. Gas spring 13 comprises a cylinder (13a) Fig. 8 (not shown) containing a movable piston (13b) and a shut-off valve (13e) situated in a conduit (13f) inter-connecting the chambers on each side of the piston, the shut-off valve being provided with the release pin 17.
