Abstract

1406337 Measuring crane tipping moments electrically FRIED KRUPP GmbH 25 May 1973 [27 May 1972] 25126/73 Heading G1N [Also in Division B8] A travelling crane includes a superstructure 6, 8, 9 mounted on a mobile chassis 1, a telescopic luffing jib pivoted to the superstructure, a sensor 19, preferably having strain gauges, on the superstructure and providing a signal representative of the actual value of the tipping moment exerted by the load suspended from the jib, an adjustable signal generator 21 providing a signal representing a permitted value of the tipping moment which signal is independent of the instantaneous reach of the jib, a comparator 22 which compares the signals from the sensor and the generator and an alarm 24 which is operated by the comparator when the sensor signal approaches that from the signal generator. The sensor 19 is mounted on the underside of a rearwardly extending, upwardly inclined portion 9 of the superstructure. When the actual value reaches the permitted value the comparator 22 causes device 25 to cut off drive to the hoisting mechanism, tipping mechanism and/or telescoping mechanism of the crane.
