Abstract

1,254,323. Safety devices for cranes. EATON YALE & TOWNE Inc. 2 Jan., 1969 [6 Feb., 1968], No. 343/69. Heading B8B. [Also in Division G1] A tower crane includes a first boom part 11 disposed substantially vertically and a second boom part 12 pivotally mounted 13, 14, to the first part and carrying a transducer 41. producing an output proportional to angle between the second boom part and the horizontal. The transducer comprises a 90 degree potentiometer R 1 with a pendulum 42 on the wiper arm 43 from which a voltage is coupled to a normally. biased-off transistor T9 in a bi-stable circuit of which the normally-on transistor T8 is connected to an alarm set potentiometer R 5 of which the wiper contact is set by knob 31 to a setting representing a desired warning angle so that an alarm horn 34 and lamp 29 are actuated when the angle of the second boom part exceeds the set value. In addition the boom angle is indicated on a meter 26.
