Abstract
140,630. Craig & Donald, and Donald, R. C. April 29, 1919. Punching.-In a punching-machine, the punch slide 1 is lifted by links or the like with stepped slots 3, allowing the punch to be brought close up to the work by hand-operated means such as a lever 13, to facilitate setting the work. The links are so interconnected with the tumbler or gag 8 by stops 9 that, when the gag is turned into its disengaged position, the links are shifted so that the cotter 2 is disengaged from the step 7 in the slot 3, and the slide 1 may be depressed. A spring brake 12 prevents the slide from dropping by its own weight, and adjustable and removable cam-rollers 10 may engage inclines 11 on the links to disengage the parts 2, 7 when the slide 1 has been raised sufficiently. In a modification, Fig. 2, a pin 2a on a reciprocating element 5 engages the L-slots 3a in brackets 4 attached to the punch slide 1. When the tumbler 8 on the slide 1 is turned into its inoperative position, it engages a tongue 9 and shifts the member 5a into such position that the pin 2a slides in the vertical part of the slot 3. This may also be done by a roller 10 engaging an incline 11. A hand-lever 13 and brake 12 are provided as in the prior modification.
