Abstract

498,490. Cutting holes in sheet material. JAMIESON, J. July 9, 1937, No. 19153. [Class 31 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] Apparatus for cutting holes in sheet material comprises a master die 10 into which fit a series of removable die rings 21 co-operating with a series of male dies 27 which enable a range of holes to be cut. A hole is made in the sheet by a pilot punch 35, integral with a handle 34, which engages a hole 12 in the die 10. The appropriate male die 27 is arranged on the punch 35 and a hammer blow on the handle 34 effects severance. A boss 14 limits the penetration of the punch. A hold-up may be located on the punch 35 when cutting holes in situ, or the parts may be used as a sub-press mechanism. The master die 10 may be provided with a plurality of concentric recesses forming dies for co-operation with male dies.
