Ball and roller bearings.-A cage for ball or roller thrust bearings is made up of a number of removable segments held together by an encircling ring. The segments 1, Figs. 1 and 2, are of U- section with recesses 3 to hold the balls. The edges 5 are turned outwards and surrounded by a ring 2 formed with a stiffening-rib 6. The balls have some play radially in the recesses. As shown in Fig. 3, two segmental perforated rings 11, 16 are secured by screws &c. to a solid ring 13. The rings 11, 16 are parallel or inclined as shown, and' they may be staggered so that the ends of the segments overlap. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which the segments 16 are bent round at 12 and secured to the segments 11. The balls may be so held that the points of contact with the race-grooves lie outside the centre lines of the grooves.
