Abstract
1403417 Recovery of sulphur SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO Ltd 12 Oct 1972 [2 Nov 1971 10 Jan 1972] 47136/72 Heading C1A Sulphur is recovered from bottoms containing styrene, sulphur and heavy oily materials from a styrene rectification process by adjusting the sulphur content to 15% by weight or less and cooling to deposit sulphur. The concentration adjustment may be achieved by addition of mother liquor from a sulphur recovery, or by addition of an organic solvent, benzene, toluene, xylene and ethylbenzene being specified as suitable solvents. Any conventional cooler may be used, preferably one with rotating scraper blades. The recovered sulphur may be used to inhibit the polymerization of styrene.
