Abstract

1402892 Ignition systems FABRICA ESPANOLA MAGNETOS SA 25 July 1972 34632/72 Heading F1B An ignition system for an internal-combustion engine comprises a condenser 9 arranged to be charged by a transformer 15 with a saturable core, a transistor amplifier 10, 11 for controlling current flow through a primary winding 14 of the transformer, a secondary winding 16 of the transformer providing a feedback, dependent on the saturation characteristics of the transformer core, to the amplifier, a resistance chain 22, 23, 24 forming a leakage path for the condenser and a Zener diode 25 connected between an intermediate point on the resistance chain and a transistor 8 connected to the amplifier such that when the voltage at the condenser exceeds a predetermined value the Zener diode becomes conductive and the transistor 8 earths the base of a transistor of the amplifier for preventing further current flow through the primary winding of the transformer. As shown the system is controlled by a contact breaker 26 but modifications are described which are controlled by a lumious diode and a phototransistor.
