Abstract

1460973 Ignition systems BROWN BOVERI & CIE AG 29 May 1974 [12 June 1973] 23849/74 Heading F1B An ignition system for an internal combustion engine comprises first and second terminals 18, 17 for connection to a direct current source 2, a contact breaker 1, an ignition coil 9 comprising a primary winding 9a and a secondary winding 9b, a first transistor 7 having its collector 7c connected to the primary winding and its emitter 7a connected by way of a resistor 8 to the first terminal 18, a second transistor 4 having its collector connected to the base 7b of the first transistor and having its emitter 4a connected to the second terminal 17, and a third transistor 30 having its emitter 30a connected to the base 4b of the second transistor, having its collector 30c connected to the contact breaker 1 and having its base connected to another ' resistor 31 which in turn is connected by way of a diode 32 to the second terminal 17 and which is also connected by way of a capacitor 33 and a further resistor 19 to the second terminal and by way of the capacitor to the contact breaker. If the engine on which the system is used remains stationary with the contact breaker 1 closed and the ignition circuit switched on a charging current which decreases with time flows to the capacitor 33. When the charging current supplied to the capacitor 33 becomes zero due to the rising charge thereon the transistor 4 and the transistor 7 are switched into the non-conducting state.
