Abstract

1467286 Ignition systems DUCELLIER ET CIE 23 Oct 1974 [22 Nov 1973 15 May 1974] 45917/74 Heading F1B An ignition system for an internal combustion engine includes an ignition contact breaker 1 and a saturable transformer 6 which charges at least one condenser 2, the latter discharging through the primary winding 5a of a voltage step up transformer 5 by means of a thyristor 3, as soon as the ignition contact breaker 1 opens and the control of the commencement of current flow in the saturable transformer and the control of the start of discharge from the condenser through the primary 5a of the voltage step-up transformer is effected simultaneously when the contact breaker opens in such a way that the condenser is completely discharged before the transfer of energy between the saturable transformer and the condenser is effected. -In a modification (not shown) there is a second transformer of different impedance from that of the step-up transformer in series with a second condenser, the two primary winding circuits being connected in parallel to the thyristor and the two secondary windings of the transformers are connected in series with a sparking plug. A resistance and a diode are each connected in parallel with the primary winding of the step-up transformer and a further resistance and diode are each connected inparallel with the primary winding of the second transformer.
