Abstract
1298182 Ignition systems MOTOROLA INC 28 April 1971 [28 May 1970] 11816/71 Heading F1B A transistor ignition system for an internal combustion engine includes switching means (contact breaker 40) responsive to the rotation of the engine to provide control current, a coil having a primary winding 14a arranged for connection to a voltage source 10, a first current control device 22 connected with the primary winding to control current flow therethrough and having a control electrode coupled to the switch means to receive the control current to cause conduction of the first current control device and a second current control device (silicon controlled rectifier 26) connected to the control electrode of the first current control device to shunt control current from the first current control device upon conduction of the second current control device to reduce current flow through the primary winding and to allow full current flow to the first current control device upon non-conduction of the second current control device to increase current flow through the primary winding.
