Abstract

1473325 Ignition circuits LUCAS INDUSTRIES Ltd 18 June 1974 [29 June 1973] 31082/73 Heading F1B The invention relates to a spark ignition circuit for an internal combustion engine of the kind comprising a capacitor 12 which is charged through a rectifier 13 from the secondary winding 11 of a transformer, the capacitor being connected to a pair of output terminals 14, 15 by means of a voltage sensitive device 16 and the pairs of output terminals in use being connected to a sparking plug 17 of the engine. The transformer has a primary winding 18 connected in series with the collector emitter path of a transistor 21 and the terminals 19, 22 of a source of supply and a resistor 31 for supplies base drive to the transistor and a feedback winding 23 is provided on the transformer and is operable to effect switching of the transistor according to the invention the circuit comprises means 25, 26, 27 responsive to the supply voltage for varying the effective value of the resistor. In a modification (not shown) a resistor is connected in parallel with the diode 24 and the base of the transistor 21 is connected directly to the collector of a PNP transistor whose emitter is connected through a resistor to a point intermediate a Zener diode and a resistor which are connected in series across the source of supply as described, the circuit is applied to a gas turbine engine.
