Abstract

1402331 Making cutlery RICHARDS OF SHEFFIELD Ltd and W MULLER 3 May 1973 [8 May 1972] 21453/72 Heading B3A A method of making an article of cutlery comprises forming a shaped portion 10, Fig. 2, with a tang 13 having a number of projections 16, Fig. 4, and/or recesses (14), (Fig. 3, not shown), forming a handle portion 11 from deformable material with an aperture 17 to receive the tang, introducing the tang into the aperture, and deforming the material of the handle portion to engage the projections and/or recesses. The handle portion may be formed of steel, die-cast zinc, or aluminium and may be chromium or silver plated or anodized. The shaped portion 10 may be formed by stamping or cutting a flat blank from a stainless steel sheet, stamping a taper at the peripheral edge of the blank and then stamping the blank to form the bowl 12. The tang 13 is also stamped to produce depressions 15 on the opposite side of the tang to the projections. A hole may be provided in the end of the tang to facilitate handling operations.
