Abstract

1402304 Rendering fibrous materials hydrophobic FARBWERKE HOECHST AG 3 Aug 1972 [4 Aug 1971] 36293/72 Heading D1P [Also in Division C3] Fibrous materials are rendered hydrophobic by impregnating them with an aqueous emulsion of an organopolysiloxane stabilized by incorporating therein a copolymer of an unsaturated amide CH 2 = CR<SP>1</SP> . NR<SP>2</SP> . CO . R<SP>3</SP> and an unsaturated dicarboxylic ester R<SP>6</SP>OOC . CR<SP>4</SP> =CR<SP>5</SP> . COOR<SP>7</SP>, wherein R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>5</SP> are each H or SH 3 and R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>6</SP> and R<SP>7</SP> are each a C 1-4 alkyl radical, preferably in amount 0À1-5 gpl. In Examples baths are prepared containing (1) 60 gpl of a 33% emulsion of a methyl hydrogen polysiloxane containing 3% polyvinyl alcohol and 4% xylene, 120 gpl of 50% aqueous dimethylol dihydroxy ethyleneurea (DMDHEU), 6 gpl ZrCl 4 , 12 gpl Zn(NO 3 ) 2 (12%) and 0.5 gpl of a 9:1 copolymer of N-vinyl-N-methyl-acetamide and diethyl maleate, (2) 75 gpl of the silicone emulsion, 220 gpl of 50% UF resin, 8 gpl MgCl 2 , 4 gpl urea, 1 gpl acetic acid and 1 gpl of the copolymer and (3) 70 gpl of the silicone emulsion, 150 gpl of 50% DMDHEU, 10 gpl Zn(NO 3 ) 2 , 4 gpl urea, I gpl acetic acid and 0.75 gpl copolymer; they are used to impregnate a cotton poplin, a cotton pile fabric or a cotton/polyester anorak poplin.
