Abstract

1367507 Sizing textiles COLLOIDS Inc 2 Nov 197 22 Jan 1971] 50935/71 Heading D1P [Also in Division C3] A textile sizing composition comprises a solution in trichloroethane, trichloroethylene, perchloroethylene or methylene chloride of 1 to 25% 'by weight based on the total weight of the solution of a copolymer having a molecular weight of 1,000 to 1,000,000 and consisting of (a) at least one hydrophobic monomer selected from vinyl acetate, vinyl chloride or a C 1 -C 15 alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl, aryl or aralkyl ester of acrylic or methacrylic acid and (b) up to 10% by weight of a C 3 -C 9 unsaturated organic compound containing at least one free carboxylic group. Textiles (e.g. nylon, polyester or acetate yarn) are immersed in the solution to deposit the copolymer (e.g. vinyl acetate or ethyl acrylate with one of crotonic acid, or monomethyl, mono-ethyl or mono-isobutyl maleate) thereon.
