Abstract

1,261,152. Fluorine-containing polymers. E.I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 6 March, 1970 [29 Jan., 1970], No. 10943/70. Heading C3P. [Also in Division D1] An oil- and water-repellent and dry soil resistant copolymer consists of (a) from 60 to 95 parts by weight of units derived from monomers having the formula where R f is a perfluoroalkyl group of from 4 to 14 carbon atoms; (b) from 40 to 5 parts of units derived from methyl acrylate or ethyl acrylate monomers; and (c) from 0 to 1 part by weight of units derived from monomers selected from and any mixture thereof, wherein R is H or CH 3 ; the sum of the proportions of the units (a) and (b) being 100 parts by weight. In the examples the copolymers are prepared by aqueous emulsion polymerization in the presence of C 12-18 alkyl trimethylammonium chloride, dodecylmercaptan, azobisisobutyroamidine hydrochloride and octadecyldimethylamine acetate and textile treating compositions containing aqueous emulsion of dihydroxy dimethylol ethylene urea, aqueous zinc nitrate, aqueous where x + y = 15, a partial condensation product of melamine and formaldehyde, isopropanol and acetic acid were prepared.
