Abstract
1401902 Alkali metal chlorate oxygen generator LIFE SUPPORT Inc 11 April 1973 17432/73 Heading C1A [Also in Division C5] An O 2 generating composition comprises (a) a major amount of an alkali metal chlorate, (b) an oxide of Na and/or K, and (c) mica, SiO 2 , or glass. The composition may contain 0À5-20% by wt. Na 2 O, Na 2 O 2 , K 2 O, K 2 O 2 and/or KO 2 ; preferably a mixture of 3% Na 2 O 2 and 3% by wt. Na 2 O. The mica, SiO 2 or glass may be present in an amount of from 0À5-6% by wt. and having a particle size of 160-200 U.S. mesh. Synthetic mica having the formula is preferred. The glass may be vitreous, borosilicate, lead-potash, " Pyrex " (Registered Trade Mark), soda-lime or potash-lime. The SiO 2 may be sand or quartz. The chlorate may be NaClO 3 present in an amount of 90% by wt. The composition may be in the form of a candle have a recessed cone at one end containing an initiator mixture composed of 41À1% NalO 3 , 44À1% Na 2 O, 5À8% Mg(ClO 4 ) 2 and 9À0% by wt. Na ClO 4 . Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,315,779.
