Abstract

410,291. Glass manufacture. GROVES, W. W., 30, Southampton Buildings, London.- (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges. ; Frankforton-Main, Germany.) Feb. 28, 1933, Nos. 6112 and 8644. [Class 56.] Glass which is transparent to ultra-violet radiation and is resistant to the action of water is made from a batch that consists chiefly of barium metaphosphate. The batch may also contain calcium metaphosphate or magnesium metaphosphate, or a mixture of both, in a quantity which does not exceed that of the barium metaphosphate. Aluminium metaphosphate may be added instead of, or in addition to, the metaphosphates of the alkaline earth metals. Silica or boric oxide, or a mixture of both, may also be added to extend the range of plasticity of the molten material. Examples of methods of preparing the batches are given in the Specification.
