Abstract
1401584 Propelling ships SULZER BROS Ltd 13 Nov 1973 [11 Dec 1972] 52652/73 Heading B7V [Also in Division F4] A ship having tanks 10 for transport of liquefied combustible gas includes a line 11 for drawing off vaporized gas from the tanks 10, the line 11 leading to a heat exchanger 13 and thence to a compressor 15 fitted with an after cooler 17, the output from the compressor 15 leading to a first branch 18 to conduct gas through a pressure regulating valve to a combustion device providing propulsion power for the ship, and to a second branch 19 conducting gas to a three-stage piston compressor 24 via line 27 to the heat exchanger 13, the gas therefrom, now at least partially liquefied flowing to a separator 33 and the liquefied portion being fed back to the tanks 10. The remaining gaseous portion of the feed to the separator 33 passes via line 28 through the heat exchanger 13 and back to line 18 to be fed into the combustion device for propelling the ship. In an alternative arrangement the separator 33 is dispensed with and the partially liquefied gas in line 28 is returned directly to the tanks 10.
