Abstract
1401583 Releasable fastening; stud and socket DORNIER SYSTEM GmbH 13 Nov 1973 [16 Jan 1973] 52584/73 Headings E2A and E2B [Also in Division F3] A releasable connection has a first part secured to a launching device for example and a second part secured to a rocket, for example. The first part comprises an outer sleeve 1 having a flange 1c, an inner sleeve 3 which is slidably mounted within the outer sleeve 1 and has an abutment 1a, a compression spring 4 located between the flange 1c, and the abutment 1a, and a distance piece 5. The second part comprises a member 2 having an arm 2a with a number of balls 8 housed therein, the arm being positioned between the sleeves 1 and 3 and the balls being received in depressions 3b formed in the inner sleeve 3 when the rocket is attached to the launching device. Release of the rocket is effected when pressurised gas is introduced through an inlet 6 in the outer sleeve 1 and enters a chamber 7 formed between the sleeves 1, 3 and the distance piece 5. The outer sleeve 1 is moved a distance A against the urging of the spring 4, by the pressurised gas, the movement being limited by an abutment 1b on the outer sleeve 1 engaging the distance piece 5. Part-spherical recesses 1e in the outer sleeve 1 become aligned with the balls 8 and allow the latter to move out of the depressions 3b and into the recesses 1e, thus effecting the release of the member 2 from the inner sleeve 3. The outer sleeve 1 and the distance piece 5 are then displaced a distance B by the pressurised-gas, the movement of the outer sleeve 1 being finally limited when an abutment 1d thereof abuts the abutment 1a of the inner sleeve 3 and the member 2 being moved clear of the sleeves 1 and 3 by the distance piece 5. The member 2 can be re-connected to the first part by the application of manual pressure.
