Abstract

1426229 Rockets BOFORS AB 14 June 1973 [16 June 1972] 28475/73 Heading F3A A rocket for dispersing radar reflecting material, comprises: a casing 3 enclosing the reflecting material (not shown); locking means 32 connecting the casing 3 to the main body of the rocket; and an ignitable charge 36 for releasing the locking means and removing the casing to expose the reflecting material. A tube 7, connected at its forward end to the casing 3, is slidably received within a tube 12 attached to the main body of the rocket. The locking means is comprised by balls which move radially inwardly to unlock tubes 7 and 12 when a piston 22 and a sleeve 21 are driven forwardly by the gas pressure from the charge 36. Continued forward movement of the sleeve 21 causes balls 23 to release the piston 22 which is then driven from the sleeve 21 by the gas pressure. The gas channels 23 thereby opened allow gas to enter the tube 7 so that it moves forwards and lifts off the casing 3 to expose the reflecting material. A perforated plate (not shown) connected to the forward end of tube regulates the air flow impinging on the reflecting material and therefore its rate of distribution.
