Abstract

1401571 Glove for safety suit L A CALHENE and PIERCAN SA 3 Aug 1973 [10 Aug 1972] 37045/73 Heading A3V [Also in Division B4] A cuff for a flexible, sealed glove, bag or mitten either as used to give access to the interior of sealed enclosures, e.g. glove boxes, or which forms the extension of the sleeve of a protective or safety suit or a sealed suit worn by an operator who partially or totally enters a closed space, comprises an annular portion 15 connecting a bead 12 with the body 13 of the glove 1 or like member and having inclined sides 16, 17 which result in an abrupt and considerable increase in diameter after the bead 12 followed by a narrowing before joining the body 13. As shown, the glove 14 is borne by an armband 2 which is also used for securing a sleeve 3 at the end remote from the glove 1 by means of a bead 4 engaging in a groove 5, the sleeve being part of a protective suit or a garment worn by an operator having access to the interior of a sealed enclosure. The sleeve 3 is connected at its other end by a bead 6 to a rim 7 forming part of the wall 8 of the sealed enclosure. The armband 2 may, however, be connected directly to the wall 8 of the enclosure. The glove 1 is locked on the armband 2 by means of an outer clip or ring 19 applied between the bead 12 and a raised rim 18 at the end of the armband. In order that the glove 1 may be replaced, a new glove 1a fitted via an end bead 12a on the end of a cylindrical ring 20 is provided within the enclosure. The ring 20 is positioned around the armband 2 (Figure 2 not shown) and the used glove 1 is turned inside out so that it'comes inside the sleeve 3 and the cuff 15 is at least partially flattened. The clamping ring 19 is withdrawn while the bead 12a of the glove 1a is released from the rim 22 of the ring 20 via notches 23 and takes up a position on the armband 2 immediately behind the bead 12 of the glove 1. The particular shape of the cuffs of the two gloves 1, 1a is such that direct contact between their sides which might result in one glove being locked frictionally to the other is avoided. The ring 20 is then withdrawn and the clamping ring 19 fitted to secure the bead 12a of the glove 1a on the armband 2. Finally, a tractive force applied to the glove 1 causes the bead 12 to pass over the rim 18 so enabling withdrawal of the glove 1 to be effected.
