Abstract

1401272 Measuring fluid-flow electrically KENT INSTRUMENTS Ltd 31 May 1972 [17 June 1971 30 March 1972] 28510/71 and 15054/72 Heading G1N A vortex-street fluid-flow meter comprises a bluff body disposed in conduit, the body having a transverse duct 85 sealed by flexible walls 84 which move in response to vortex-shedding and give rise to an electrical output indicating rate of fluid-flow. As shown the duct - which may be air filled - contains a Piezo-electric bimorph 86 which flexes to give an electrical output. Alternatively the walls 84 may be metal (e.g. steel) or metal coated and form capacitors with metal grids fixed in the duct, enabling a differential voltage to be measured. The body has a rectangular section whose sides have a ratio of 3:2. Alternatively a body of circular or square cross-sections may be used. Magnetic detection is also envisaged.
