Abstract
1401082 Powder mixtures OWENS-ILLINOIS Inc 8 May 1972 [6 May 1971] 3580/75 Divided out of 1401081 Heading C7D A homogeneous finely divided powder mixture of Au, Ag and at least one metal (M) chosen from Pd, Rh, Ru, Ir, In, Pt, Cu, Ni, is produced by forming a soluble salt solution of M and Ag, adding a reducing agent to ppt M and Ag and forming a slurry of the ppt, adding a gold salt solution and reducing this solution to ppt Au into the slurry. Several reducing agents are given for precipitating M and Ag, of which hypophosphorous acid is preferred. The reducing agent to precipitate Au is chosen from Na 2 SO 3 , hydroquinone, hydrazine sulphate, H 2 SO 3 ,Zn dust or FeSO 4 . The powder produced has a size of <5Á and usually has at least some alloying of M and Ag, with Au dispersed throughout.
