Abstract
1400837 Electric couplings SIEMENS AG 24 July 1972 [22 July 1971 20 Sept 1971 18 Jan 1972 (4) 17 March 1972] 34459/72 Heading H2E Thin insulated wires are solderlessly connected by means of a contact element which has a sharp edge profile at least where it contacts the wires and an elastically deformable plastics component which at least partially surrounds and contacts the contact element and wires and spring-loads them together. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the wires 2, 3 and pin 5 are held between deformable plastics strips 6, 7 integral with a base-plate 8. In a second embodiment, Fig. 3, the wires 2, 3 and the pin 5 are in a deformable plastics sleeve 9 provided with a slot 10 and an opening 11 to improve the spring properties. In another embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), the sleeve is cylindrical and in Fig. 8 (not shown) four sleeves are combined in one Maltese Cross shape for splicing quads. The pin 5 may have a sharp edge to co-operate with a ledge on the sleeve to shear off the ends of the coupled wires. In another embodiment, Fig. 6, the sleeve has a U-shaped cross-section and is provided with an insulating cap 14. A plurality of sleeves may be combined to form one or both legs of an H-section strip, Fig. 24, which provides channels 25, 26 for the cables to be spliced. Transparent insulating caps may be provided for the strips with co-operating lugs and recesses for stacking the strips together.
