Abstract

1400017 Correcting mispicks in jet looms MACHINEFABRIEK L TE STRAKE NV 9 June 1972 [10 June 1971] 27139/72 Heading D1E In an air jet loom, or detection of a mispick, a coupling 3 between the motor 4 and mainshaft 2 is disengaged and the mainshaft braked, the air supply to the insertion jet 9 and operation of a weft cutting device 23 are discontinued, a drive between the mainshaft 2 and a weft feeding and storing device 8 is interrupted, a device 50 for rotating the mainshaft one revolution in the reverse direction is engaged to reopen the shed, and an arm 38 moves the end of the mispick back into the path of the jet whereupon auxiliary blowing nozzles 11 spaced across the reed are operated to carry the mispick right through the shed and simultaneously insert the following pick. The detector 41 which originally detected the mispick, on sensing the arrival of the correct pick recouples at 3 the mainshaft 2 to the motor, opens the air supply and renders cutters 23 effective, to restant the loom. Weft feeding and storing apparatus is driven by a shaft 2a connected to mainshaft 2. After disengagement of coupling 3, when a detector 43 senses that the mainshaft has stopped, it sends a pulse to solenoid 54 which disengages a coupling 6 in shaft 2a, simultaneously closing contacts 4a which pass current to a solenoid S to couple the mainshaft with the piston and cylinder device 51 for rotating it in the reverse direction, and a solenoid S 5 which actuates a pneumatic valve 50 to supply air to device 51. Contacts 49 also operate solenoids S 7 , S 8 , Fig 3, which operate a clamp 33 in a lateral extension 9a of the insertion nozzle, to grip the mispick as it is beaten up and a pusher arm 38 which pushes the mispick back into the path of the insertion jet 9, so that it can be carried through the shed by the auxiliary jets 11. In normal operation of the loom, an oscillating arm 31 carries the end of the inserted weft into the range of cutting scissors 23. Air for the insertion jet is supplied via a cam controlled valve 15 and quick release valve 12 to a reservoir 13. When the valve 15 is fully depressed valve 12 opens to discharge the reservoir through jet 9.
