Abstract

1399793 Debarking apparatus CANADIAN INGERSOLL-RAND CO Ltd 21 Sept 1973 [16 Oct 1972] 44429/73 Heading B5L Debarking apparatus, Fig. 3, comprises a rotatable drum 10, debarking tools 56 arcuately contoured on all working sides and carried by the drum for applying impact blows to logs in the drum during rotation thereof, and an anvil 66 inside the drum controlling the movement of logs within the drum and around which the drum is rotatable. As described, the drum 10, Fig. 1, includes ring supports 18 connected in spaced relation by channel section members 22. The members 22 carry tires 24 running on rollers 26, and a gear 28 meshing with a driven pinion 28a for driving the drum. Each ring 18 carries a mounting plate 58, Fig. 3, having an eccentric opening in which is secured a tool mounting ring 60 carrying a tool mounting segment 64. Part-spherical tools 56, Fig. 7, are carried by the segment 64. The tools 56 are arranged spirally or in rows, adjacent segments 64 are circumferentially offset, and the rings 58 are arranged eccentrically with the segments mounted on the parts thereof of greatest radial width. The size of the tools 56 may increase along the drum. The anvil 66 is carried by fixed supply and discharge sections 32 and 34 and has projections 72, Fig. 7, which enter the gaps 20, Fig. 1, between adjacent rings 58, thus preventing small logs entering the gap 70, Fig. 2, between the anvil and the drum interior surface. The anvil may have ribs on its surface to assist feeding of logs through the drum. The anvil may be adjustable by pivoting.
