Abstract

1309005 Mineral-mining rotary cutters COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd 29 June 1971 [24 July 1970] 35969/70 Heading E1F A rotary cutter, e.g. a cutter drum, for a mineral-mining machine comprises a hub 2 for mounting on a driven shaft of the machine, a cylinder 4 secured co-axially around the hub, cutter tool holders 14 secured to the outer periphery of the cylinder, elongated members 26 angularly arranged around and secured to the inner periphery of the cylinder to form chambers 28 extending parallel to the axis of rotation of the cutter, an inlet 41 to each chamber for admittance thereto of dust suppression fluid and outlets 46 from the chambers for directing the fluid radially outwards of the cylinder. In such a cutter the total circumferential area of the chambers is equal to at least a major portion of the adjacent circumferential area of the cylinder. Preferably the members 26 are plates, the cylinder is a two part, axially split cylinder and has helical loading flights 12. A phasing unit cuts of the fluid sequentially to only those of the chambers which are momentarily in a selected segment of the cutter as the cutter rotates.
