Abstract

1399363 Regulating fuel injection ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 15 Aug 1972 [16 Aug 1971] 37968/72 Heading F1B A low pressure continuous fuel injection system for a spark-ignited I.C. engine comprises a measuring element 2 and an arbitrarily-openable throttle valve 6 arranged one downstream of the other in an inlet manifold 3, the element 2 being movable in proportion to the air-flow against a return force, in a manifold section formed from individual frusto-conical portions of which contiguous portions subtend different included angles, to slidably move a valve member 11 to meter the fuel supply proportionate to the air supply the return force being provided by a fluid continuously derived from a constant pressure source and acting on the valve member via a throttle 57. Fuel is pumped from reservoir 16 to the metering valve 7 via line 17 and flows via duct 22 and groove 23 to chambers 24 to act on one side of diaphragm 25. Movement of the valve member 11 causes the groove 23 to uncover ports 26 to feed pressure fuel to chambers 28 and thence to the individual injection valves in the intake manifold. Springs 30 hold the diaphragm away from the inner end of duct 29 when the engine is stopped. The diaphragm boxes formed by chambers 24, 28 cause the pressure head at the metering valve to remain substantially constant. The fuel pressure is applied to the valve member 11 through throttles 35, 57. The annular crosssection between the plate 2 and the inner periphery of each frusto-conical portion is proportional to the travel of plate 2 to give linear dependence between the movement of plate 2 and valve spool 11.
