Abstract

1318497 Regulating IC engine fuel injection; spray carburetters ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 29 Dec 1971 [28 Dec 1970] 60369/71 Heading F1B [Also in Division G1] In an I.C. engine fuel injection system, fuel is supplied in an amount dependent upon the airflow to the engine. A member 3 is arranged in the air intake manifold 1 to control the crosssection of the manifold, the position of the member 3 being controlled so as to maintain constant an air-flow measurement in a passage 4 circumventing the member 3, or in an aperture passing through the member 3. As shown, the air-flow measurement is the product of air speed and density as determined by a temperature dependent resistor 6 in passage 4, the resistor 6 being arranged in a bridge circuit across which is connected a regulator 13. When air-flow to the engine varies, e.g. due to movement of throttle valve 2, the bridge becomes unbalanced and the regulator operates a servomotor 12 which in turn rotates the member 3 until balance is obtained. A cam 8 is arranged on member 3 and co-operates with the control member 9 of a fuel metering valve 10. The cam may be three-dimensional, its axial position being controlled by an engine operating parameter. Other operating parameters may be effective to vary the cross-section of passage 4 or to vary resistances in the bridge circuit. Injection may be continuous or intermittent.
