Abstract

1398829 Rotary pumps and motors RINEER HYDRAULICS Inc 12 Sept 1973 42828/73 Heading F1F A hydraulic pump or motor comprises a rotor 14 and a stator 12 which have opposing peripheries each including a plurality of recesses defined by a harmonic curve and disposed so as to provide a generally annular space between the rotor and stator, each of the peripheries including a plurality of equispaced radial slots 30, 22 receiving a corresponding vane 32, 24 therein, there being an even number of both rotor and stator vanes with the number of rotor vanes exceeding that in the stator by at least two so as to provide a constant output, a fluid inlet 26 in the stator adjacent one side of each slot 22 therein and a fluid outlet 28 adjacent the other side of each slot, hydraulic fluid being applied behind the vanes, 32,24 to urge them outwardly with respect to their slots, the hydraulic fluid being applied to behind the rotor vanes 32 by way of openings 72 in a timing plate (not shown) which seals off the fluid acting on these vanes during the time the rotor and stator vanes cross each other to prevent the vanes 32 from being pushed into their slots by the vanes 24. The stator vanes 24 are thicker than the rotor vanes 32 and springs 54, 64 are also provided to act on the vanes the springs 54 behind the stator vanes being stronger than those 64 behind the rotor vanes so that the latter are not able to push the former into their slots. The sealing off of hydraulic fluid behind the rotor vanes helps to prevent wear at the tips 25 of the stator vanes and at the edges of the rotor vane slots. This fluid may be supplied from the pump outlet or motor inlet or from a separate supply. In a further described embodiment a harmonically curved peripheral surface is provided only on the stator the rotor being cylindrical in form.
