Abstract
1396519 Two-part couplings ITT INDUSTRIES Inc 14 Dec 1972 [23 Dec 1971] 57691/72 Heading H2E The insulating body of a female connector 1 for a flat flexible cable 19 comprises a receiving member 4 having an entrance 16 for a mating part 17, and a retention member 5 attached to the receiving member by a tape hinge 6. With the bared conductor ends 18 of the cable 19 inserted into the chamber 14, the retention member 5 is pressed against the receiving member 4 until the resilient hooks 9 latch behind bridge pieces 12, clamping the cable 19 between the face 23 and the overhanging part 27 of the receiving member. The bared conductors 18, thus bent down and retained in the chamber 14, constitute the connector contacts engageable with contact surfaces of the mating part 17. A hole (not shown) in the mating part resiliently engages a boss 28 in the chamber 14 to prevent accidental withdrawal. This connector provides a cable entry perpendicular to the direction of insertion of the mating part 17. Modifications (Figs. 2 to 9, not shown) provide cable entries perpendicular, parallel and opposite to that of the mating part.
