Abstract

1394337 Gripping tools P A SHEVINOV 29 March 1973 15088/73 Heading B4W A device for holding miniature cylindrical parts comprises a body 1 having at one end a pair of opposed flat strip elements 2 which constitute jaws, and a central passage 3 in which there is a push rod member 4 which acts as an ejector for parts held between the jaws, the member 4 having an end piece 5 which is slightly smaller than but of similar shape to the passage 3 and has a groove 18 in its end face, the groove laying transversely to the plane of movement of the jaws 2. Cantilever springs 17 urge the jaws to their gripping position. The body 1 is slidably arranged in an outer bush member 6 and is upwardly spring biased within the member 6 by a spring 11. A spring 10 stronger than spring 11 acts between the body 1 and an enlarged portion of the push rod member. The latter has a projection 9 passing through the casing, depression of the projection 9 causing the body 1 together with the jaws, and push rod member to move downwardly (compressing spring 11) to the limit of a groove 12 in the body 1 which co-operates with stop member 13. Continued downward movement of the projection 9 causes the end piece to move downwardly relative to the jaw elements 2 (thereby compressing spring 10 since body 1 is arrested by the stop 13) to eject a workpiece from between the jaws 2. End piece 5 has slots in its side surfaces which accommodate the jaws 2.
