Abstract
1394262 Making cutlery and razor blades GILLETTE CO 31 Oct 1972 [1 Nov 1971] 50112/72 Heading B3A [Also in Division C7] A razor blade or knife is produced from a steel in percentage by weight C .....0À6-1À4 Mn .....7-30 Cr .....0-20 Co .....0-10 Si .....0-2 Al .....0-6 Cu .....0-2 Mo .....0-2 Ni .....0-5 W .....0-1 by austenitizing at 1000-1250 C. to dissolve sufficient carbides that the Ms temperature is depressed so far below room temperature that the steel remains substantially austenitic during the subsequent cold working and ageing operations. After cooling or quenching the steel is cold worked e.g. by rolling, stamping, pressing or drawing, preferably with at least 50% reduction, the working possibly being effected in part by the grinding involved in forming the cutting edge, and is then aged at 200-500 C., followed by application of and baking of a polymer coating.
