1392547 Cabinets IWATE FUJI SANGYO K K 22 July 1972 34386/72 Heading A4B [Also in Division F2] A constructional unit for a furniture system is in the form of a box structure composed of top and bottom plates, two end plates and a back plate, and joint poles at the intersections of the top, bottom and end plates, wherein each joint pole 122 or 12d is of generally square cross section with either a dovetail groove 121 or key formation 126, 127 in or on each of its faces, and wherein each of the top, bottom and end plates 11 has corresponding dovetail tongues 113 or undercut grooves 128, for sliding engagement with the grooves or key formations on the joint poles to assemble the unit, and has grooves 111 to receive the back plate 13. The joint pole shown in Fig.8 is composed of two sections 122, 123, the former of which is slightly shorter than the length of the end edges of the plates 11, so that the poles do not foul the corners of the back plate 13, while the latter, which is either flat, as shown in Fig. 8, or has recesses as shown in Fig. 9, so that the poles receive the corners of the back plate. Alternatively Figs. 1-7 (not shown) the poles may be in one piece extending the full width of the plates 11, in which case notches are provided in the corners of the back plate 13 to accommodate the poles. By the addition of further plates 11 and 13 to the unit, a complete shelving structure with provision for drawers and cupboard doors Fig.6 (not shown) can be built up. When the structure is complete the spare grooves 121 can be filled in with a decorative strip or, where mounting to a wall is desired, a flat plate having an integral tongue of dovetail form Fig. 1 (not shown) is secured to the wall and the structure assembled on this by sliding a spare groove of an adjacent pole on to it. Fittings for a set of drawers consists of bars 17, Fig. 13, having integral securing and spacing lugs 171 and integral rails 172 received in grooves 181 in the drawers. Sliding door fittings (161) Fig 12 (not shown) are of conventional form in plastics material and are secured in place by double-sided adhesive tape. Modifications are described comprising joint poles having grooves of other than dovetail cross-section but with equivalent keying facility Figs. 15-17 (not shown). In the modification of Fig. 18, using the joint pole 12d having key formations 126, 127, the plates 11 have chamfered edges to interfit as shown.
