Abstract

1392187 Controlling fuel injection pumps; stopping SIMMS MOTOR UNITS Ltd 9 June 1972 [17 June 1971] 28354/71 Headings F1B and F1K The invention relates to fuel pumping apparatus for internal combustion engines of the kind comprising an angularly movable engine speed control member 10 and an angularly movable stop control member 11, the control member 10 in use being operable to control the quantity of fuel delivered by the pumping apparatus to an engine and the stop control member 11 being operable to stop the supply of fuel by the apparatus. According to the invention the apparatus comprises in combination resilient means 14 biasing the stop control member to a position in which the supply of fuel by the apparatus is halted, inter-engageable members 15, 16 on the speed control and stop control members respectively whereby angular movement of the speed control member will effect angular movement of the stop control member away from the position to a second position, a latch member 25 operable to retain the stop control member in the second position, electromagnetic means 22 energizable when fuel is to be supplied by the apparatus, the electromagnetic means effecting operation of the latch member and the latch member acting when moved by the electromagnetic means to move the inter-engageable members into engagement and to hold them in engagement until the stop control member attains the second position, whereafter the latch member retains the stop control member in the second position until the electromagnetic means is deenergized.
