1391784 Controlling chimney draught A L HANCOX 17 Aug 1972 [17 June 1971] 28347/71 Heading F4J The velocity of gases issuing from a chimney is controlled by altering the effective area of the discharge orifice so that the pressure of effluent gases is maintained constant at some reference point in the chimney system, e.g. the chimney base or exit from a boiler. As shown, the effective area of the discharge opening 25 of a cowl 21 is controlled by a tapered piston 30 with a conical valve end 20, said piston being disposed in a cylinder 31 supplied with air through a line 32, the supply being controlled by a pressure sensitive element at the reference point. In a modification (Fig. 2) the valve is suspended from above on a balanced arm, the outer linkage of which is activated from the pressure sensitive element.
