Abstract

139,163. Martin, J. Walter-. Feb. 21, 1919, [Convention date]. Stropping-apparatus.-Apparatus for sharpening double-edged safety-razor blades comprises a casing with a lower part 1, having hinged thereto a cover 2, in which are located the sharpening-rollers 3, 4. These comprise wooden cylinders covered with leather and having therein a metallic tube 6, Fig. 1, adapted to receive at its ends pins 7, engaging in holes in the casing, which thereby act as axles for the rollers. The blade is held in position, during sharpening, by means of a magnetic support 5 carrying pins 8 adapted to engage the holes in the blade and secured to the cover 2. Packing-washers 9 are interposed between the cover and the magnetic support, and are adjustable in thickness to vary the pressure of the blade on the rollers; or springs may be substituted for the washers. The rollers are driven by means of a handle on the axle of a large toothed wheel 10 gearing with a toothed wheel 11 on the roller 3; on the other end of this roller is a toothed wheel 12 gearing with a wheel 13 on the roller 4.
