Strops a n d stropping - apparatus. - A safety-razor blade s, F i g . 1, is clamped between the halves m of a split bar, Fig. 2, and is then fixed between side supports so that the edge of the blade is in lateral contact with the strop c. The strop is mounted on a wooden segment a, pivoted on a shaft b and rocked to and fro by hand. The edge of the blade is pressed into contact with the strop by means of end; pieces or guides o on the bar m. The lower ends of these guides press against a spring g fixed to the base-piece, whilst the upper ends run in contact with metal flanges d on the segment. When the frame a is rocked so far over that the uppsr ends of the guides o pass beyond the end of the flanges d, the spring g throws the lower ends upwards to come into contact with the flange d, and so present the other edge of the blade ready for the strop on the backward spring of the frame a. For double-edged razor blades, the second edge is sharpened by throwing the segment a right over, and turning the blade by hand while it rests in the apparatus.
