Abstract

138,993. McMurdo, A. H. Feb. 17, 1919. Reciprocating-saw machines. - A manually-operable hack-saw machine for cutting rails, girders, &c. comprises two saw frames pivoted together so that the saws engage with the upper and lower sides of the work respectively, the upper saw being kept in engagement with the work by the weight of its frame or by an additional weight attached to the frame for that purpose, and the lower one by a counterweight on an extension of the frame beyond the pivot. As shown in Fig. 1, frames 1, 2 are reciprocated by means of a handle-lever 19 connected to the pivot pin 7 and pivoted on the frame of the machine, which may be fixed or portable. The frame 1 is provided with an adjustable weight 15, and the extension 8 of the frame 2 with an adjustable and removable counterweight 9. Projections 17 on the frame 1 guide the frame 2 so that the saws are kept in alinement. The cut is completed by the upper saw after removal of the counterweight 9.
