Abstract

1389532 Ice-breaking cargo or supply vessel AIR LOGISTICS CORP 28 Feb 1973 [2 March 1972] 9769/73 Headings B7A B7S and B7V Submerged hulls 12 support superstructure 22 above surface ice by columns 24 and ice chippers 26 are fitted to the columns. In the embodiment described the ice chippers are discs mounted on a pair of counter-rotating parallel shafts, the columns are pivotable about a horizontal axis and deck or pallet 56 may be rolled out from the superstructure. The thrust system 42 of Fig. 3 is used for manoeuvering the vessel and also for raising and lowering it, particularly at low speeds. The hulls may have water, fuel and fluid cargo compartments separated by flexible diaphragms.
