Abstract

1389340 Abrading SOC DAUPHINOISE D'ETIRAGE ET PROFILAGE DE METAUX 11 Oct 1972 [11 Oct 1971] 46876/72 Heading B3D [Also in Divisions F2 C7 B5 and B8] An apparatus for supporting and rotating an elongate load 2, which is shown as metal bars which are to be descaled in a tank 1, comprises groups of three pulleys 5, 6 about which endless flexible slings, shown as chains 11, are supported, one pulley 6 in each group being driven whilst pulleys 5 idle. A motor 10 and transmission 9 drive pulleys 6 through a shaft 7. The groups of pulleys are mounted on a framework 3 which can be supported by an overhead travelling crane through lugs 4. The groups of pulleys may comprise two only, of which one or both may be driven, the chains 11 may be replaced by wire ropes, and the load 2 may be rotated so that it may be wrapped, pipes rotated to be treated in a tank 1 which contains, e.g. cleansing liquid, or baulks of timber whose bark is removed by equipping the chains 11 with cutters. In the latter instance the baulks may be supported at an angle to the horizontal so that they move longitudinally as they are rotated.
