Abstract
1389191 Gas discharge display devices SPERRY RAND CORP 7 March 1973 [24 March 1972] 11061/73 Heading H1D A gas discharge display device comprises plates 14 of dielectric material with a plurality of aligned tapered apertures 20 therethrough and a metal electrode 15 disposed on the surface of each plate 14 including the narrower ends of the apertures 20, the electrode extending up to the peripheral edges of the apertures. The result is that greater areas of electrodes are exposed to the gas than if cylindrical apertures were used. The plates and electrodes can be made by coating both sides of a sheet of dielectric material with an etch-resistant substance, removing the substance at a plurality of locations on one side, etching the plate until apertures extend through the plate, removing the substance and metallizing the surface of the plate containing the narrower ends of the apertures.
